NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2009 / FW/ — Ports 1961 all encompassed new trends for spring: draping, feminine pleating detail, and a flirty romper. This show revealed its inspiration in the first few pieces and music choice: Asian culture meets high city life.
The line was fresh and wearable with its array of draped bandeau dresses and duchesse coats. The careful selection of sheen and sheer fabrics produced an organic feel, fitting perfectly with the green movement in America.
The statement necklaces were made subtle with neutral colors, and accentuating the waist was innovated with clear belts. This presentation revealed femininity, simplicity, and quality. There was a fabulous contrast of movement pieces along with fitted sheath dresses and shells.
There was something for every girl in this collection. The cowl back dresses were fabulous for the bubbly woman full of personality, and the array of forties inspired dresses fit the classic yet fashionable lady.

Twinkle By Wenlan Spring 2010: Urban Life and Modern Art

NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2009 / FW/ — The Twinkle by Wenlan Spring 2010 collection was clearly an artistic presentation full of clashing geometric prints that successfully came together as one flattering ensemble.
The majority of the looks included leggings full of graphic pattern making it seem as though art deco was painted on their legs.
Seemingly inspired by urban life and modern art, designer Wenlan Chia used a lot of primary colors and toned it down with black and white prints.
The girl who wears Twinkle has a punk rock air about her, especially if she is sporting one of the glam rock dresses. The jewelry was not intended to be hidden into this line, but rather it was used to make a statement.
Neon chunks of color, the contrast of shiny and dull, and brights with muted colors creates great interest. This line overall exhibited a successful concept and image.

NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2009 / FW/ — This morning, Jason Wu was beyond exquisite. His collection was like a breath of fresh air as femininity meets modernity on the runway.
Carefully chosen fabrics were made into dresses that were classy, sophisticated and bursting with colors.
He brought a whole new view of the skirt and shirt combination with perfect silhouettes that could flatter all body types.
He, in all of his genius, incorporated a blend of fun, sensuality, and classiness into his collection. People watched in awe as the outfits walked the mirrored runway at the St. Regis Hotel.
There was a slight touch of the 1940s mixed with short hemlines and fitted dresses. Emphasized back zippers, mixed prints, feathers, and sequins all made for impeccable creations.
Jason Wu displayed his passion for detail and a woman’s silhouette in his consistent line for spring.

Monarchy Collection Spring 2010: High Energy

NEW YORK, Sep 11, 2009 / FW/ — Energy was high at the Monarchy Collection show in Bryant Park on Friday. Eric Kim took us into a world of sensual fashion with organic fabrics and simple fabrics.

Tons of linens walked the runway, creating a refreshing tone while incorporating a sexy appeal. Big curled hair flowed from the all American girls.
As they walked by, images of Farrah Fawcett and Kate Moss flew through my head, wondering if they had some part in the designer’s inspiration. The men were clean cut with a slight edge as they rocked the subtle pinstripes and neutral cashmere. Plaid, white, linen, and super fine trousers made for an impeccable men’s collection.
For the ladies, high waisted skinny jeans, crop tops, and floppy jackets revealed women who knew who they were, confident in themselves, pulling off something simply sexy. The boyfriend shirts appeared sporadically on the women, and slim fit shorts made a perfect fit for the men.
Juxtaposition was created with mixing linen and metallics, clashing in a flattering way. This entire line was fabulous. Transitions were flawless. As I walked out, the energy remained high as the crowd discussed their new lust for the upcoming season.

NYMAG: Can’t Live Without It!

My favorite website that I peruse daily is nymag.com. It has been a tool that has changed my life for the better. Living in Dallas, it is a resource that connects me to the inside scoop of daily fashion news or entertainment updates that I do not necessarily hear about on the streets. And when I live in New York City, it is a resource that informs me of everything and anything I need to know about this place full of culture and thriving opportunity. It breaks Manhattan down in order to diminish its seemingly overwhelming effects. I resort to this website to find out what to do on my day off in New York and how I can take advantage of every moment here. I learn about new openings of restaurants with full access to reviews. It is an epicenter of information ranging from episode blogs about this week’s Gossip Girl to Obama’s relations in the Middle East. And for the shopper out there, it posts updates daily on designer sample sales or clearance opportunities. It is a place that reflects the greatness of the center of the world. It is a website that is especially important for those in the entertainment industry, and it is a way to begin planning an unforgettable social calendar.
