Moon Dusts + Simple Morning Matcha Latte

768 1024 Melissa Mayer

We have talked about Moon Dusts before on LSK and our overall love for the Moon Juice Shop. Their dusts are unique adaptogenic blends of superherbs that promote health, wellness, and function- brain dust, beauty dust, power dust, spirit dust, and sex dust. You can visit each product page to read the specific ingredients. We love to mix these powders in our smoothies and tea.

Lately, Melissa has been using brain dust in her morning matcha latte (instead of coffee!) and she has really been loving it. Specifically, she has noticed that she is more calm and focused throughout the day, compared to starting her day with coffee. Also, matcha is packed with health benefits, including promoting glowing skin, being packed with antioxidants, and it is known to boost metabolism. Below is the simple recipe that Melissa follows-

Simple Morning Matcha Latte

*serving size of matcha (from Trader Joe’s) or this or this

*1/2 cup organic unsweetened almond milk

*1/2 cup hot water

*1 teaspoon-tablespoon of Brain Dust

*1 teaspoon-tablespoon of Collagen Peptides

*dash of cinnamon

*little bit of organic honey

Directions

*Heat up hot water in a kettle

*Heat up almond milk in a sauce pan

*Pour matcha powder in a mug

*Once water is heated, pour over matcha in mug

*Whisk matcha & water

*Once milk is heated (simmering) pour over matcha/water in mug

*Whisk in collagen + brain dust

*Sprinkle cinnamon on top

*Squeeze a little of honey in the latte

Enjoy! xo

The Recipe For The Cinnamon Rolls

540 809 Melissa Mayer

Happy Monday, friends! What better way to kick off the Monday after a holiday weekend than with a delicious recipe??? After many comments and messages to my + Jase’s Instagram Stories, I realized that I just HAD to share the recipe for the cinnamon rolls! All credit goes to The Stay At Home Chef– this is her recipe and I am so thankful that I discovered it. As Jase mentioned on stories, we don’t do the icing part because we like it better without, but totally do what works for you. I also make a few other swaps- I use ghee instead of butter, water instead of milk, and turbinado sugar instead of regular sugar. If you didn’t catch these rolls over on IG stories this weekend, let me catch you up real quick…they are AMAZING. Ha, I seriously cannot gush about them enough. They are the epitome of comfort food, especially during this holiday season as a special weekend breakfast. If you give the recipe a try, be sure to come back here and let me know your thoughts in the comments! xo

The Week Of Family, Cooking, and Shopping

1024 683 Melissa Mayer

This week is definitely the week of family, cooking, and shopping. It is such a special time of year, but it can also be crazy busy. We are praying over all of us that we cling to calmness and not let the crazy-busy make us crazy! It is easy to get caught up in all of the pressure of hosting perfectly, cooking perfectly, decorating perfectly, shopping perfectly and everything else. However, rejoice, because we can say goodbye to all of the false perfect goals because they just aren’t true. What is true is that this week is full of fun opportunities to be with loved ones, cook and eat delicious meals together, and do some gift shopping. Above all else though, we are called to give thanks abundantly this week. So, instead of getting caught up in the crazy, let’s exist in the crazy (and even enjoy it) while standing firm in thankfulness with a gracious heart and a spirit of calmness, love, and joy. With that being said, we are of course going to list out a few sales that we are looking forward to (the ones that we know of so far!) + recipes that are on our want-to-cook list this week and weekend. Scroll down for more, xo.

An Answer To A Health Prayer

1024 683 Melissa Mayer

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have seen a few of my stories over the past months that featured this book: The Plant Paradox by Dr. Gundry. I started reading this book because I have had bloating, inflammation, and fatigue issues for years. I felt like I had tried everything to make it better with certain dietary remedies and supplements. However, they would only help for a limited amount of time and the issues would come back. I would get so confused as to why I would get painfully bloated everyday when I was eating SO clean – AKA homemade salads with homemade lemon juice and olive oil dressing, fresh quinoa bowls made from scratch, almonds with skin for a snack, whole food protein bars, fresh veggies like cucumbers and bell peppers. It just didn’t make sense!

Two of my dear friends go to Dr. Gundry and have nothing but amazing things to say about him and his perspective on gut health. My girlfriend went specifically for unexplained stomach problems a few years ago after seeing doctor after doctor, and she hasn’t had a problem since! She told me to make an appointment with him, but he is sadly not taking new patients at this time. I was bummed to find that out, but I immediately ordered his book and it has brought me so much hope and a new perspective!

In his book, Dr. Gundry describes the many people who have changed their lives by eliminating lectins.  Lectins are large plant-based proteins found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds and leaves of most plants that bind to carbohydrates. Lectins are designed by nature to help the plant survive by protecting the plant from predators. Animals don’t like the taste, so they spit the seeds or rinds out. Humans aren’t quite as wise and continue to try to digest the lectins. Once inside, the lectins cause a chemical reaction playing havoc on our digestive system.

Eating lectin-free can heal any auto-immune disease and it truly allows the body to function as it should and heal itself. How amazing is that!? Dr. Gundry’s book is filled with impressive case studies that I find just beyond fascinating. He discusses cases from arthritis, to migraines, to cancers, plus many more that have been solved by patients remaining disciplined to a lectin-free diet. Another big lesson from Gundry’s book is this: Every disease starts in the gut.

The Plant Paradox is truly mind-blowing and it has opened my eyes to so much. When I started to read the book initially, I seriously could not put it down. It is an answer to a health prayer and has provided me with so much hope. I cannot recommend reading it enough; it is a total game-changer!

Green Smoothie Bowl Recipe

932 699 Melissa Mayer

Melissa, here! I am sharing a green smoothie bowl recipe that I make almost every morning for breakfast. On the mornings that I don’t have this, I have a smoothie drink, plus an english muffin with almond butter (or avocado), or scrambled eggs with turmeric. Since this smoothie bowl is so filling and satisfying, having it is definitely enough for me. It keeps me feeling full and energized throughout the entire morning. Below are the ingredients and directions!

INGREDIENTS

1 frozen organic banana

1 handful of organic spinach

1 handful of organic frozen blueberries

1/2 avocado

1 cup almond milk

1 tablespoon spirulina (I like the one from Whole Foods)

1 tablespoon hemp powder

1 tablespoon bee pollen

1 tablespoon maca

1 tablespoon ashwagandha

1 tablespoon of a moon dust (I have tried beauty and spirit)

DIRECTIONS

Put everything in the blender and blend it up until smooth and creamy! Then top with granola + a scoop of almond butter. It would also be so yummy with fresh berries on top. Enjoy! -M
