athens fashion week: i heart ga.
being familiar with the beautiful peach state, and hearing raving reviews from my cousins' first-hand love for the university of georgia, i imagined nothing less than a wonderful experience at athens fashion week. reality hit the moment we landed in this quaint college town, only to find ourselves in awe of the authentic charm, unwavering hospitality, and savvy-filled, driven individuals.nicole mcclellan, the pr chair for athens fashion week, gave us the first taste of the town as we dined at the most lovely of restaurants, while enchanting us with the story behind the first fashion week in athens history, which became concrete from a brainstorming conversation between creative business minds, a little encouragement from an eavesdropping grandma, and dedicated interns who believed in a vision.shannon and i settled into the historical foundry park inn, still raving about our delicious homemade salads and sandwiches, and made our way shortly after to the fashion week festivities. walking into the bad manor venue, a culture spot of this college town, sparked in me one overall initial impression: charisma. i have rarely seen a place with so many energy-filled volunteers and overall excitement from guests and participants. clearly, the vibe reflected the impeccable leadership of the event: kuddos to richie knight, nicole batten, cory mccants, and nicole mcclellan. bravo!emma graham began a great lineup of shows, followed by a men's runway presentation including looks from ralph lauren, southern proper, southern marsh, bacon handmade neckwear, and the otter bay company. can i just say the guys were working it, and the crowds reaction proved to be in agreement. fun fun. not to mention, local singers and a justin beiber impersonator added an even greater personal touch to the evening. a walk around downtown and a press stop at a local boutique left us enough time to head over to the highly anticipated judith march show, where she presented her exclusive georgia bulldogs collection. too. cute. to conclude this flawless night: the victoria secret swimsuit show. it was a hit!to top off what was one of the best charity-focused fashion events of the season, kim zolciak of "the real housewives of atlanta" hosted "cocktails and couture for a cause" at the foundry inn, where all proceeds from the event went to benefit the georgia 4-h foundation. delicious food and wine, a rockin' band, and a full dance floor graced the party, only to end the night with a college night out in downtown athens.this trip was a blast and a success to say the least. i was blown away by the quality of every detail of the events and the beyond warm welcomes from new friends. i am already looking forward to what next season will hold!
stay tipsy.
a switch always occurs on the horizon of spring and summertime, where i begin to crave loudly spectacular colors after a too-long season of wintery neutral palettes. not to mention, there is something about that exhausted-from-a-day-full-of-sun, surfing the waves, or for all you texans--cruising in a boat on the lake, fratty-type tone, that always seems to stimulate my chillaxing type outlook on these months of greatness. and for that pursuit, i have discovered a new outlet: tipsy skipper.having interned at vineyard vines and lilly pulitzer, RISD graduate and sailor-extraordinare, kearsley lloyd, was bound to embark on one adventurous voyage where rejuvenating escapades are never-ever compromised. we are the lucky ones. i adore when people find a way to combine their passions; for kearsley, tipsy skipper has become the ultimate collaboration of her love for sailing and design.time to stop reading, and time to start brightening your wardrobe with those skippy skimmers, uber-fun totes, and pretty clutches. be a tipsy skipper girl who welcomes the limelight, celebrates color, exhibits class without losing her humor, and knows the difference between tipsy and too much:)shop here, and don't forget to sail by her awesome blog too!
no-plan sunday.
i love sundays because i put away all my work and relax…enjoy life...cook…garden...have spontaneous fun. we all need more days like these. my family and i planted an organic garden last sunday. we filled it will tomatoes, watermelon, five different kinds of peppers, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, berries and cream mint, coconut thyme, cilantro…and that doesn't even break the surface. it has already survived a crazy hail storm, and it is growing strong!no-plan sundays means testing new recipes, and here is today's line up: baked eggs, fresh flavored water, and avocado chocolate mousse. find the recipes below.baked eggsgrate one medium sized sweet potato. chop an onion. prepare a bowl of spinach. in a skillet, sautee the sweet potato and onion in coconut oil (or your oil of choice), salt, and pepper for five to seven minutes. add spinach for the last minute or two. place mixture in a glass bowl. crack 2-4 eggs on top. bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes depending on how cooked you like your eggs.fresh flavored water: the warm weather staple.you need 1 large cucumber, 2 lemons, and one large orange. peel the cucumber and slice. thinly slice the lemon and orange. place in a large pitcher. add fresh mint leaves for extra refreshment. add water. let the flavors settle for an hour. enjoy, and keep adding water!avocado chocolate mouse- the perfect dessert. (the guys LOVE it)don't be scared. cut open 2 large avocados and spoon them out into a bowl. beat until the avocado is a creamy mouse-like consistency. add 1/2 cup of 100% cocoa. add 3/4 cup agave nectar. add 1 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract. beat until all ingredients are mixed evenly. serve immediately, or refrigerate and serve later. happy sunday!
