new york fashion week: day 4!
last night memory. thousands singing the star spangled banner together in the city. what a wonderful way to usher in a day of remembrance, honoring those in 9/11.brunching at fred's at barney's began my day with a yummy pancake flair and sweet dallas friends. cheers to the first cowboys game of the season! #excited. football is here, yipee!!off to catch a glance of the L.A.M.B. collection, which honored those affected by 9/11. incredible. with an interview to catch at cut25, yigal azrouel's new more-afforable collection (insert cheers here), me and shan zipped over in one of those yellow cars they call taxis, all to find surfer-babe 80's fever posing in the highline stages. let's just say i am still dreaming about those beachy brights and chunky soles. oh, and i am collecting money in my piggy bank for these wardrobe beauties. i would be okay just wearing this designer alone. interviewing the mastermind didn't help the massive wave of inspiration.flash forward to carlos campos, a men's collection in the heart of modernity and downtown edge: milk studios. this may have been the hunkiest collection of models i have ever spotted. oh, and the clothes were magnificent. seriously, men take fashionable notes and sport the cropped pants, sperry-esque brogues, and blazers. such a good look, no?fashion break. shan and i strolled on over to central park to get out of the building lime light and into the green sheep meadow and shaded tree shade. we concluded our nice little escape with some whole foods dinner, dark chocolate, hot tea. starbucks has been our office for the next few hours. oh, and of course the cowboys updates are on instant speed dial. nighty night!
nyfw day 3: september 10
ruffian started out my morning with a rage of bright primary colors and pretty candy-colored shoes: an inspiration from the horse racing society i recall. chatted with some fashionistas in the tents, and scurried on over to meet the camera crew on what i like to call the "secret street." great memories are made there, one of which was an exclusive interview for lolo magazine with twilight guy, kellan lutz. the inside scoop on his newly launched clothing line, abbot+main, will be posted soon on the mag, so keep your eyes peeled!next on the menu: pink tartan. a little 60s fever does a day good. i post jill stuart street style. we got some fabulous snaps of the models trickling out from backstage, and we had a few surprise faces join the exits--scott disick and kris humphries, aka the hubbies of the kardashian sisters.the empire hotel called us home as writing and editing were on the top of the to-do. adam was next on the fashion plate! so excited for this runway show; first season to see it live! it was magical, with feminine sheer fabrics floating down the runway. i felt like i was in a garden paradise.off to eataly with my nyc roomie, kris!! so fun to reunite with her and megan. fun catch up din! off to the lower east side to celebrate jayme's b-day with cannolis! yummmm.
new york fashion week: sept 9
(hanneli! check out her awesome blog here!)general idea menswear welcomed my morning with a prep-tastic runway full of multi-colored jackets and platform sperry-like topsiders. i couldn't help but envision their stated inspiration: boys on the beach in the heavenly oasis of st. tropez. loved the entire show to pieces!!(thanks for the snap aaron craig)it was a hard time choosing but rebecca taylor and mara hoffman had to unfortunately be passed by, as they conflicted with the always anticipated yigal azrouel. highly in-like with this designer…maybe on my top 5 list?
(trend alert: neon cross-over bags)
the yigal show was full of boxy silhouettes that managed to swiftly correlate the masculine and the feminine, bringing out an architecturally sharp and confident woman, all the while exuding elegant gracefulness and simplicity. now: chillin' at the empire after a scrumptious dinner at nanoosh (favorite hummus bar), drinking tea and writing my heart out...
it's that time of year, fashion week is here!
this city is so contagiously inspiring. it's like you can feel the bustling energy right when the plane lands! i wish i could take it home in a bottle. i jumped in a taxi to head over to the empire hotel, shannon's and my home for the next ten days! so much going on here already. i set up a little work spot on the massive comfy couches in the lobby, only to catch myself people watching about 98% of the time. model casting happening? i think so. never a dull moment.shan arrived shortly after. we organized our "home," and walked 20 short blocks away to cafe lalo. our jaws dropped out of absolute charm upon our arrival at this quaint little eatery. windows open. best salad i have ever eaten in my life. great conversation. aaron craig met up with us for a coffee to finish out the magical experience. amazing times. a rooftop hotel was on our spontaneous agenda, a slightly secret spot in colombus circle. what a view. business chatter and funny stories delighted the night. inspired.september 8th hit bright and early: the kickoff to fashion week! first show on the schedule~nicholas k. always look forward to their chic grunge collections. i wonder how they pull it off so well every season! kelly cutrone was super nice; see quote: "don't tell anyone i'm being nice, it will ruin my reputation." love it. off to the secret street (i like to think of it this way) to meet with my photog friends! models poured out of richard chai. mini photoshoot? fun fun.the trek to kimberly ovitz was quite a task, and the show was so so. super simple, nothing special. nevertheless, hello man repeller--her killer proenza schouler bag made the introduction. love the constant mingling of editors, bloggers, all photographers.off to trader joe's (yay). off to fashion night out! soho was our final destination of choice. first stop: burberry. they win the coolest appetizer award! john varvatos came in close second to excitement. Even a proposal happened here. we stepped outside to see khloe kardashian step out of her little boutique, dash. mob scene. betsey johnson and billy reid to follow. fun times!(us with john varvatos)off to smile to escape the madness of this city-wide sartorial fest. a late night dinner at this underground spot made for a most relaxing end to the night and the best meatballs in the world. up next: a day packed full of the runway. see you tomorrow...Loved meeting The Man Repeller!
