lifestyle// organizing your new year

IT’S A NEW YEAR along with new routines, motivation to tackle old projects, and energy to start something new. i love all that the new year brings, but one of my most favorite things is the eagerness most people get to REORGANIZE THEIR SPACE. i’m not sure what it is, but there is nothing like the first week in january that drives people to be out with the old and in with the new. in the spirit of the new year, i wanted to share some of my favorite tips and products for organizing your space.

over the years, i have become so passionate about adopting a CLEAN and MINIMAL LIFESTYLE. while it once started with the food i ate and the products i used, it slowly but surely has seeped into every area of my life, including my spaces. the tips i’m sharing and the organizational products i use are practices i implement in my own home. i hope that they encourage and help you to clean your space, and in turn free up your lifestyle to help you truly thrive.

TIPS

everything that is of like should be organized in the same space in the house // candles should all be stored together, stationary, hats, paper towels, etc. this helps eliminate chaos and confusion and also enables you to have back stock of the necessities

everything should be in a certain category // while all your paper towels are stored together in the same space of your house, you should also organize the space to store similarly categorized items. for example, paper towels can also be stored with toilet paper, bath tissue, soaps, q-tips, etc. this will accomplish the same goal as the above

everything should have a place // if you don’t have a place for your items, then it’s probably a good sign to get rid of it, or make a place for the item by getting rid of the previous object that held that space

only keep things you need // less is more. if you use an item as infrequently as every few months or even just a few times a year, you should ask yourself if you really need it. the best place to start with this is in your closet with your clothes or in your kitchen with excess items that can gather over time like mismatched cups, plates, cutlery, etc. the best part about this trick is that once you start in one area of your house, you will be motivated and inspired to tackle others. start in the space you feel will be easiest to tackle, and work your way to the areas that might be more difficult

if you run out of hangers or space in a drawer, it’s time for a purge // running out of space is a key indicator that you have too many items
