An Inside Look at #NYFW - Rubin & Chapelle

An inside look at some of my favorite shows from #NYFW - Nicole Clevenger

I am so excited to take you into the world of fashion week where each new season, designers have an opportunity to share the way in which they’ve grown their personal style and aesthetic with the world.Twice a year, hundreds of photographers, celebrities, bloggers, and industry geniuses come together to get a first-hand look at some of the brilliant collections and trends to come. They come to see how designers are either challenging or changing the “fashion quo” and leave inspired by the hair, the make-up, the models, and the clothes – the elements that tell story of what next season’s “woman” will embody.Below you will get a first-hand look at some of the brilliant fall/winter collections you can expect to see later this year along with my perspective of the type of woman who will be wearing their clothes.

Rubin & Chapelle

+ELEGANT EDGE+Location: The Top of the Standard Hotel (aka: the Boom Boom Room)Known for their light and crisp aesthetic, Sonja Rubin and Kip Chapelle debuted an elegant and angular look in what I like to call the “Great Gatsby” room at the Top of the Standard Hotel. The models were brought out before a band of photographers to show off the angular prints and asymmetric hemlines which were inspired by Scottish menswear. My favorite aspect of this collection is its surprising softness. Even though the contrast of light pinks against dark greys initially bare an edgier look, I imagine the silk fabrics lying delicately on the woman who is looking to leave a comfortable and elegant impression.Collection Elements:

  • Colors: greys, pinks, black, mauve, sky blue:
  • Shoes: sneakers, rain boots
  • Makeup: muted neutrals, pale pink eye shadow
  • Hair: slicked side-part in a low pony-tail

LIVE from NYFW - ft Nicole Clevenger

nyfw.jpg

Both Lauren (Kennedy) and I were so sad to have to miss NYFW this year due to trips that were planned earlier in the year! We are so fortunate though to have had the talented Nicole Clevenger be our eyes and ears at the shows, and bring us a first-hand report of the trends, the designers, and the week overall. We hope you enjoy her articles and point of view as much as we have!

Live From #NYFW - Nicole Clevenger

Nicole

Before delving in to the happenings of fashion week, I’d like to do two things: say thank you + introduce myself. First of all, I want to just say thank you to the “Lauren’s” for giving me this amazing opportunity to report on the Fall/Winter ’15-’16 collections of Fashion Week this year. I truly believe that one of the greatest gifts you can give someone is to believe in them, to encourage them to pursue their dreams and explore their passions; Lauren (now Kennedy) has given me this amazing gift by believing in me enough to go on behalf of LOLO Mag and bring the beauty of the runway to you! This most definitely is a dream come true.Next up, intro’s! My name is Nicole Clevenger, a consultant by day and adventurer by heart. I grew up in Dallas and actually went to high-school with Lauren. My story is a little unique in that though I went to Texas A&M and studied finance, I have always had a love for arts: music, painting, art, writing. Before starting my full time job, I moved to New York for a summer to go on my first big adventure and explore my “creative side”. I ended up interning for a home décor start up called The Citizenry and did a little work for designer Lisa Perry on the side. That summer, I discovered that I am inspired by watching brands (and more importantly, people) grow. I believe we are all on this earth for a purpose and when we challenge ourselves to explore who we are and what we love, we are more likely to discover our passions and become better equipped to live out our purpose. I hope that by sharing my NYFW experiences with you, you find yourself inspired to explore what inspires you.

Stay tuned throughout the week for an inside look of Nicole's favorite shows from #NYFW!

NYFW || Days 1 + 2

photo-1.jpg

New York Fashion Week. The energy radiating from this city is one like I've never experienced before. Photographers, editors, creative directors, people-watchers, designers, make-up artists, writers...it's like world's population of creative people are currently all in one place at one time, and it's a beautiful thing. One of my favorite things about Fashion Week so far has been studying the street style trends {details to come on that later!}. You see everything from boyfriend jeans, backwards caps, and sneakers, to Chanel handbags and Valentino dresses.A few of you had asked about where you could get my looks from days 1 & 2 on my Instagram. I put all the links below. Enjoy!Day 1 look: White Zebra Top from Neiman Marcus Last Call. Black pant from J. Crew. Black handbag from Neiman Marcus Last Call. Shoes (old). Similar here. Earrings - Kendra Scott from Neiman Marcusphoto 2photo 3Day 2 look: Dress is from Milk & Honey Boutique. [Similar here]. Earrings - Kendra Scott from Neiman Marcus Last Call. Sandals are old, but these are very similar and I love them! Bracelet by C. Wonder[show_shopthepost_widget id="252084"]

Back to the basics

Seeing as this is my rookie year at NY Fashion Week, I've had my fair share of panic attacks when trying to decide what to pack. When in doubt though {or, in my case, panic mode}, go back to the basics! Below are some staple items that I knew would need to be in my suitcase, regardless of what outfits I put together. {Also, item #1 is seen below worn by our lovely Lolo!}[show_ms_widget id="5078964" image_id="5254156" width="1190" height="892"]1. This okala pump is the perfect complement to any outfit, and the heel height allows for all-day wear. Lo loved them so much, she bought them in two colors! 2. I've been obsessed with this J. Crew tote for quite some time now {bonus, it's currently 25% off!}. Perfect for traveling and trips when you're needing to look chic on-the-go. 3.  I recently discovered these amazing faux leather pleated shorts. The leather gives you an edgy look but the pleat makes them comfortable and still classy - perfect for going from day to dinner. 4. You really can't do NYFW without a red lip! This NARS lipstick in jungle red is my personal fave - bold color, matte finish, long-wear. 5. I'm a sucker for Ray-bans, and this black matte pair  keep you looking trendy and classy all at the same time. 6. Lo was so sweet to send me this adorable Ted Baker cosmetic bag for my upcoming trip to NY! I love the gold bow and light pink color. 7. Please, do yourself a favor, and don't travel anywhere without a good pair of flats! My Caroline leather Tory Burch flats were such a good investment and have amazing durability. Be on trend this season and get yours in this cool grey color!Whew. Now that I've got my basics down, it's time to get packing. Happy Fashion Week everyone!

bundle up.

Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-10.03.07-PM.png

I was laughing this week when I heard a New Yorker comment on the slight warm front that was breezing through the city. What?? To me, The Big Apple accompanied North Pole temps. When my face was almost too frozen to speak after walking three short blocks, I recognized bundling up was a necessity...like layers upon layers + new rules: no holes in jeans, no public exposure without a massive scarf, no texting without gloves. Oh and I needed to live in a bini (and I did).

When fashion week rolls around, it is a compilation of shows, more shows, and lots and lots of business meetings and social gatherings. So much inspiration. So much adventure. You never know what each day will bring. These first two days have been lovely and productive. Top memories//coffee with a photographer than captures everything dreamy, snapping a polaroid, seeing the beauty of Central Park covered in snow, dreaming at Wildfox, a cozy dinner at The Smile with Aaron and Brynn, photo shooting with my sweet and talented friend Kat Harris {Beyonce Pandora on play} for upcoming features on The Style Line and Conscious Magazine, break time with Kat at Intelligencia Coffee in The High Line Hotel, an afternoon ballet featuring Dannijo, a cappuccino at Culture Espresso with Rachael and Kashmiri + a sushi date with Sam at Koi in #bryantpark. Looking forward to what tomorrow has!Screen Shot 2014-02-11 at 6.12.12 PM1509061_10104427473364764_8741776_n148286_10104427473374744_1797267619_n1619510_10104427473664164_2018579838_n1797437_10104427473674144_1275680906_n1891117_10104427474013464_391410881_n1902857_10104427473998494_1078145521_n1001017_10104427474677134_42901990_n1654211_10104427474352784_928479000_n-11902868_10104427474672144_1617381856_n

The Juice Press + New York Fashion Week

When fashion meets health-nut fanatics, something yummy is always in store. As New York Fashion Week approaches, so are the creative juices, literally. The Juice Press is creating fashion-inspired smoothies that contain all organic fruits and veggies. The menu you ask? The Banana Wintour (yes, this is real), a delicious concoction of coconut water, banana, cinnamon, agave, and ginger, or the Front Row Seat, a mixture of risky business: red pepper, garlic, cucumber, chipotle, onion, and an array of spices. What makes this the best fash-food collab ever? The week-long cleanses are discounted with proof of attending a show.Source
