NINE WAYS TO AMP UP YOUR BRAIN
a large part of clean living is coming to understand how much of every part of what you do is all connected; what you eat, the activities you take part in, and even the relationships you (have) can all be impactors to your health.
with one month into the new year down, and some of us experiencing those winter-lows, here’s nine ways you can boost your health that i’ve learned from the expert advice of my functional medicine doctor, along with personal experience and practice of my own.
one// your morning routine
one of the most applicable tips my functional medicine doctor gave me was to wake up and avoid my phone for 15 minutes. he said to make a hot lemon water and go outside for a minimum of 15 minutes either walking, journaling, or doing whatever sounds peaceful. it ignites the chemicals in your brain that reduce anxiety. the way you start your day is one of the best ways to take care of your brain.
two// sleep
a health-benefitting practice in general, get plenty of sleep as this plays a vital role in brain health. if you’re experiencing trouble sleeping at night, take time to reflect on your daily practices such as caffeine intake, amount of exercise you’re getting, or foods you may be eating that can affect your sleep.
three// omega threes
take a good quality omega 3 fatty acid supplement. this is a major building block of the brain, plays a role in protecting your brain from decline, sharpening memory, and boosting your mood.
four// try a mental activity
stay mentally active by challenging yourself every day. some brain-boosting activities include a puzzle, sudoku, or reading to name a few.
five// stay in the loop
keep up with your friends and family, community is so beneficial for your brain health. cut out time every day to call or text a loved one, or schedule a facetime date with a friend.
six// exercise
exercise regularly. studies show that the increase of your heart rate pumps more oxygen to the brain; it is also great for the growth of brain cells overall boosting your brain function.
seven// watch what you consume
avoid processed foods and sugar, which cloud the brain and slow down your mental function. instead, incorporate these brain boosting foods like fatty fish, avocado, green veggies, nuts and seeds, berries, and tea or coffee.
eight// reduce stress
reduce stress by stretching, praying, meditating and even try adding a cbd to your daily routine to ease your mind. i swear by this one and use it almost everyday.
nine// limit alcohol
limit your alcohol intake which can cloud the brain long-term both before and after you consume it, and stay hydrated with good, quality water!
