DEEP NAVY, WARM AMBIENCE

the pool table room is an area that jase and i felt collectively inspired by. it was so fun dreaming up this space; we made mental notes from lounge rooms in hotels that we enjoyed and took this blank palette and kept building on it. we love the location being across from the long dining table because it allows for special dinners and game nights with another collective activity available close by for the festivities.

A COMMUNAL LOUNGE, RELAX AND CONVERSE

we decided on creating a more masculine lounge, and we are so happy with how it turned out. this type of room can often get lost in the shuffle, yet this one has been far from that. it feels so communal when family or friends are over; the sitting spaces offer such a cozy place to relax and converse while a friendly competition is happening simultaneously.

when we were renovating the home, most of the changes we made were cosmetic and non-structural. the closest we got to making any major structural changes to the home was in this room, the long dining room, and the living room–all of which we updated the cosmetic structure of the fireplaces. our home contains three gas fireplaces, two directly mirroring each other across the hallway from the pool room to the long dining room; and the other in our living room. in this room, as in the dining room, we decided to keep the design of the fireplaces cohesive. we kept the gas fireplaces in place, and updated the mantle by removing what was initially there. we then opted for a simple frame with a stone finish to add texture and create something that looked natural and effortless, though still maintaining their noticeable beauty on their own.

our designer suggested we paint this room a darker color to really make a statement, and after jase had some hesitation, we did it! i discovered this eco-friendly and locally manufactured paint company called portola paints, who hand blend their non-toxic paint in small batches. this deep navy shade covering the walls and the ceiling completed the ambience we were aiming for; it has created an extra warm and inviting atmosphere.

we finished off the room with decorative accents that further added to the warmth and depth of the room; choosing to add in dark woods with the pool table and accent table, and opting for a dark chandelier overhead. the additional lighting adds to the “shadow box” feature of the room, creating an inviting, encapsulated space in what would otherwise be an open environment.

and lastly, we finished off the room with a few pieces that add heart and soul to the space. the “on the air” sign over the fireplace is one that jase used to use in his room as a kid when he would do newscasts and the multicolor vase is a gift from my mom. the pop of color on the vase mixed with the pool balls pulls the room together, and the heartfelt accents make it feel even more like home.
