Keep Moving at Home

2019_04_23_LoLoMag4-0004-Edit.jpg

One of the most helpful ways to stay healthy, sane, and have mental clarity during this time is making it a priority to stay active every day, even if it's just for ten minutes! You can change it up often so it stays exciting. Even commit to a work out every day with a friend over FaceTime to make it something to look forward to. I wanted to share my favorite work outs I have been doing from home these last few weeks + share ways that you can create your own gym in your home!

Favorite Work Outs

Everyday @laurengores posts a circuit training work out on her IG stories. They have been my favorite and only take 15 minutes. If you want to step it up a notch, @johnpeelfitness posts a workout every day on his IG that will kick your butt and whip you into shape.Have you ever heard of The Class? I am starting a trial for two weeks - it is so grounding and creates emotional awareness while moving your body. The Sweat App is so fun and a challenge! It only takes 30 minutes.Try Alo Yoga for free for 14 days!SHOCK Women's Fitness app is a must-try for a great at-home workout!

Items for Home Exercise + Activewear

A good nontoxic yoga mat is an essential for any exercise. An exercise ball is so good for stability and core. Ankle weights are great during any work out or even to add a little resistance on a neighborhood walk. This set has everything you could need. These bands are also great to give your legs + bum a serious burn!!See below and scroll through our favorite activewear! Stay safe and hope you have the best work outs![show_shopthepost_widget id="3971984"]

Clean Sweep Exclusive: Everyday Veggies

fMOXv2cA.jpg

Hey friends!By now, you have definitely heard me talk about my Clean Sweep Program! This is from Week One Day 2, focused on all the veggies and even includes a salad dressing recipe that is seriously SO good. Hope you enjoy it and if you aren't signed up for the Clean Sweep, this is the type of content you could expect during the 90 day journey. Learn more here!

At the Kennedy household, about 80% of all our meals are veggies. We eat a ton of broccoli and cauliflower steamed, sauteed, and roasted! No matter how veggies like that are prepared, they are so good and good for us.

Brussel sprouts and asparagus, rainbow carrots, shiitake mushrooms, beets, butternut squash, and sweet potato are also favorites!  I like to saute them in ghee on a low temperature for longer periods of time. I also like roasting these at high temperatures, which is especially good at drawing out the yummy, good sugars in the carrots, squashes, and sweet potatoes. Frozen or bagged artichokes and hearts of palm are great as a last minute salad or stir fry addition. Be careful of the citric acid in most canned versions, though!

Jase and I have a hearty salad daily at lunch or dinner that typically includes red lettuce, dinosaur kale (massaged with olive oil, half a lemon and a little pink salt), roasted beets, cucumber, and radish topped with sauerkraut, kelp flakes, cilantro, basil, and mint. It is so tasty, and we both really look forward to it! For salad dressing, I like to whip up a quick homemade dressing of lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic. It is so simple yet so refreshing and delicious. I am so thankful because my mom made the most delicious dressings ever since I was little, so I have gotten the best recipes from her.

LEMON GARLIC SALAD DRESSING

Fitting for two salads

Squeeze one full lemon into a glass measuring cup

Add the same amount of olive oil to match the amount of lemon juice

Add freshly grated garlic (optional)

Whisk with a fork until it blends together well

Be sure to add healthy fats (again, we will break this down next week!) to your veggies. The following fats are good for your gut and for your brain function. For cooking, I rotate ghee, fed tallow grass , coconut oil, and avocado oil. Balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar (ACV) are also great pairings for salad dressings.

Lululemon x SoulCycle

0-6.jpg

I love the new year because it gives us a push to be more disciplined and improve our health! It has been so fun seeing so many of you celery juicing and signing up for The Clean Sweep + the health-filled Insta posts are bringing me life! What better way to kick of 2019 than embracing new health practices, work outs, and might I mention, new work out gear?

Did y’all know that lululemon is partnering with SoulCycle to launch an exciting, limited-edition activewear collection? Deep breaths. I could not be more excited for this!

I went to a SoulCycle class this week in these pants and this sports bra, and both pieces made the experience extra enjoyable. The pants and the bra fit perfectly and are so comfortable at the same time, and they held up during the entire class and are super soft too! I threw on this sweatshirt post ride, and this jacket is on my wish list because this collection is oh-so-dreamy and work out perfect. Not to mention, this tank would be a great addition to this look + maybe buy something for your man, like these shorts. And throw in some socks to boot!

There is something about a work out outfit that inspires me to actually exercise. Do you agree? What workouts are you incorporating in your routine this year?

Thank you to lululemon and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!

Three Fitness Routines I Love

Hey guys! As you know, fitness is a super important part of wellness. In order to feel my best, staying active is key. I love to be outside and that is part of the reason why I absolutely love the beach and being by the water. [show_shopthepost_widget id="3277216"]

Hey guys! As you know, fitness is a super important part of wellness. In order to feel my best, staying active is key. I love to be outside and that is part of the reason why I absolutely love the beach and being by the water. Whenever Jase and I go to the beach, we have time to rest and relax, but we are also up and out exploring and adventuring.

Regardless of where I am, home or at the beach, keeping fit is so important to me and brings me such joy! Below are three fitness routines that I love:

--

*Sweat App (BBG)

I do the Sweat App (BBG) about three days a week.

*Pilates

Doing pilates once a week works out really well for me- I love the strength and flexibility focus of the classes.

*Hiking

I love hiking and try to do that at least once a week - we live right on a canyon with a great hiking trail, so that makes it extra easy!

We would love to know what fitness routines ya'll love! Let us know in the comments below. xo

The New Nike Sneaker

Let's be honest. I pretty much live in yoga pants and tennis shoes. Who's with me? [show_shopthepost_widget id="3057997"]

Let's be honest. I pretty much live in yoga pants and tennis shoes. Who's with me? Let's be more honest; thank goodness that active wear became an every day trend rather than just an ensemble appropriate only for the gym a few years ago. What did I wear during the day before that? And what's even greater? The fact that pairing sneakers with dresses, skirts, jeans, and trousers is cool creates another level. of. excitement. All that to say, and speaking of tennis shoes, have you seen the new Nike shoe? By shoe, I am referring to the Air Max 270, which features the first-ever air unit designed for a lifestyle shoe, a unit that clocks in as the tallest-ever at 32-mm. Filled with fresh Oregon air right down the road from the main Nike campus, the Air Max 270 blends elements from the Air Max family's past with a new, zonal-mesh upper for a hybrid sneaker that moves the legacy forward. They look super cool with mom jeans and socks that go above your ankle (nerdy look for the win), a feminine dress, or a denim skirt. This shoe is just launching and it is a must-addition to your active wear collection.[show_shopthepost_widget id="3057997"]

An Answer To A Health Prayer

2017_08_14_LoLoMag11-0228-Edit.jpg

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have seen a few of my stories over the past months that featured this book: The Plant Paradox by Dr. Gundry. I started reading this book because I have had bloating, inflammation, and fatigue issues for years. I felt like I had tried everything to make it better with certain dietary remedies and supplements. However, they would only help for a limited amount of time and the issues would come back. I would get so confused as to why I would get painfully bloated everyday when I was eating SO clean - AKA homemade salads with homemade lemon juice and olive oil dressing, fresh quinoa bowls made from scratch, almonds with skin for a snack, whole food protein bars, fresh veggies like cucumbers and bell peppers. It just didn't make sense! Two of my dear friends go to Dr. Gundry and have nothing but amazing things to say about him and his perspective on gut health. My girlfriend went specifically for unexplained stomach problems a few years ago after seeing doctor after doctor, and she hasn't had a problem since! She told me to make an appointment with him, but he is sadly not taking new patients at this time. I was bummed to find that out, but I immediately ordered his book and it has brought me so much hope and a new perspective! In his book, Dr. Gundry describes the many people who have changed their lives by eliminating lectins.  Lectins are large plant-based proteins found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds and leaves of most plants that bind to carbohydrates. Lectins are designed by nature to help the plant survive by protecting the plant from predators. Animals don’t like the taste, so they spit the seeds or rinds out. Humans aren’t quite as wise and continue to try to digest the lectins. Once inside, the lectins cause a chemical reaction playing havoc on our digestive system. Eating lectin-free can heal any auto-immune disease and it truly allows the body to function as it should and heal itself. How amazing is that!? Dr. Gundry's book is filled with impressive case studies that I find just beyond fascinating. He discusses cases from arthritis, to migraines, to cancers, plus many more that have been solved by patients remaining disciplined to a lectin-free diet. Another big lesson from Gundry's book is this: Every disease starts in the gut.The Plant Paradox is truly mind-blowing and it has opened my eyes to so much. When I started to read the book initially, I seriously could not put it down. It is an answer to a health prayer and has provided me with so much hope. I cannot recommend reading it enough; it is a total game-changer!

Workout Plus Lounge

collection_sport_fall2016_01.jpg

Do you guys find yourself using workout clothes as lounge clothes, too? We do and we kind of love it. Clothes that function as workout plus lounge are so convenient. I find myself often being around the house in workout clothes, feeling comfortable, getting chores done, and then just heading out the door to the yoga studio or gym. On the way home, running to Whole Foods or picking up dry cleaning is no big deal, either. Versatility, comfort, style, and performance are all so important to us when it comes to workout clothes, since they serve more than one purpose. The active line from lou & grey, zella, alo yoga, lanston sport, outdoor voices, abercrombie's active line, and lululemon are a few amazing places to get workout clothes that are functional and chic. Scroll down for a list of a few favorite pieces // xo

YOGA TALK

yoga talk | lolo magazineI am so thankful to have discovered alo yoga gear. The team there is so kind and generous and recently sent Lo and I each a few pieces to try out. I picked out this top (in white) and these leggings (in black) and am beyond satisfied with both. It is currently the outfit that I keep reaching for when heading out the door to yoga or to the gym. It's my favorite! I typically do yoga in leggings + a sports bra, but this alo top is the perfect thing to put on when going to and from the studio. The top is also great for running since it’s so light and breathable. The leggings are extremely comfortable, flattering, and the fit is amazing. My biggest pet peeve about leggings is when you have to yank them up during the middle of a workout! Isn't that the worst? Good news, that is not even a thought with this pair. They stay in place and let you move however you want to move!  Amen to that. These two products have definitely caused me to be hooked on alo yoga gear and I am already planning future purchases, like these pants and this bra. Investing in high quality, stylish workout clothes that will last is so worth it to me. Above is a collage of more favorites from Alo (also available at Nordstrom) plus a great gym/studio bag from LeSportsac (c/o) and a cool yoga mat. Links are below!
